Correct Adhesive for Flashing

Ensure that you are using an adhesive that is compatible with F Wave shingles. Approved adhesives are RM-Lucas 6600, Mule-Hide SEBS1, NPC Solar Seal 900, OSI Quad. See F Wave's Approved Sealants & Adhesives or consult the F Wave installation manual.

Deck Condition

F Wave is a premium product that provides excellent visual depth and performance. However, the visual appearance and performance are dependent on a good foundation and by this we mean the roof deck. Before installation, all previous shingles, underlayments, nails, and other debris must be removed so the surface is smooth. Any worn, sagging, or rotted decks sections must be replaced. Any uneven/unlevel transition sections between OSB/Plywood sections must be corrected.

Starter Shingle Application

F Wave Starter shingles must be nailed with 6 nails located 1 inch up from the edge. The start should not be overhung more than 1/2 inch past and L style drip edge or flush with a D style drip edge. Be sure to install underlayment over the top of the drip edge metal and down to the edge of the drip edge.

Field Shingle Application

F Wave Field shingles must be installed with 6 nails per shingle and with a 1-1/2 tab offset. Shingles should be installed using the alignment marks to add with a level installation and allowing for a 6 inch exposure.

Roof to Wall & Rakes

When F Wave shingles are installed at a rake, we suggest that our T Style rake metal be used. Install with a 1/2 inch gap between the shingles and the edge of the metal. For a Roof to wall, use step flashing additional adhesive to secure the shingles. Allow for a ½ inch gap between the shingle and step flashing.

Valley Installation

When F Wave shingles are at a valley, be sure to cut a 1” diagonal at the top of the head-lap. In addition, be sure to install additional adhesive in the head laps to seal the valley edges.

Hip/Ridge Installation

When F Wave Hip/Ridge shingles are installed, be sure to use a 1-3/4” nail or longer to ensure penetration through the deck. Apply one nail on each side in the “Nail Here” mark. Apply the H/R shingle so the leading edge is aligned to the raised flat area of the shingle below. Do not cheat the exposure length.

Field Shingles Final Inspection

Apply pressure to every shingle tab to ensure seal down. This can be done by walking on each tab glue line. Using a person on the ground as spotter, identify any unsealed tabs and ensure they are sealed. Examples of reasons they may not seal include un-driven nails, roof debris, and underlying deck condition. If the tabs are not sealed within a few days of the install, the adhesive will become too dirty to seal on its own.
