FWAVE + FORTIFIED

Taking Roofing to New Heights

FWAVE is now FORTIFIED. Engineered for extreme weather. Designed for peace of mind. Using FWAVE’s FORTIFIED-compliant products can help you meet the highest standards for resilience against wind, hail, and severe storms. FORTIFIED’s innovative design – especially when combined with FWAVE’s compliant products – not only stands up to extreme weather-it helps lower long-term maintenance costs and may even qualify you for insurance discounts.
What is a FORTIFIED roof?

Reinforced Roof Edges
Wind damage usually starts at the edges, where gusts can sneak under and begin tearing the roof away. That’s why we suggest to follow FORTIFIED’s installation requirements by using a wider drip edge and a fully adhered starter strip. Together, they lock down this vulnerable zone and form a tougher barrier for increased protection against the elements.

Sealed Roof Deck
Blown off shingles can expose the wood deck underneath and become an open invitation for water intrusion. To stop leaks before they start, FORTIFIED standards require sealing the roof deck to block water from seeping through cracks and joints.

Stronger Fastening
FORTIFIED calls for ring-shank nails installed in a tighter, more resilient pattern. This upgrade doesn’t just sound tougher—it actually is. It nearly doubles the holding power of your roof deck, giving it a serious edge in high-wind conditions.

Impact-Resistant Shingles
If you live in a hail-prone region, there’s an extra step worth taking: the Hail Supplement. This requires using shingles that rate Good or Excellent in the IBHS Hail Impact Test. These impact-resistant shingles outperform traditional Class 4s and can stand up to hail up to 2 inches in diameter—offering your home extra armor in extreme weather conditions.

What do property owners need to do?

  • Reach out to your insurance provider to see what discounts apply to your exact address (these can vary by location).

  • Compare quotes from multiple insurance agencies to find the most competitive rate.

  • Look into whether you’re eligible for any roofing grants or incentive programs.

  • Research potential state or federal tax credits that may be available.

  • See if your upgrade qualifies as a tax-deductible expense based on your personal situation.

What does my contractor need to do?

To become FORTIFIED certified, your contractor must complete the appropriate online training course based on their role (roofer, evaluator, or design professional) and regional wind zone (hurricane or high wind). They’ll need to pass the certification exam with a score of 80 or higher.

If they have questions about FORTIFIED installations, they can contact F-Wave Roofing for support.
