Reinforced Roof Edges
Wind damage usually starts at the edges, where gusts can sneak under and begin tearing the roof away. That’s why we suggest to follow FORTIFIED’s installation requirements by using a wider drip edge and a fully adhered starter strip. Together, they lock down this vulnerable zone and form a tougher barrier for increased protection against the elements.
Sealed Roof Deck
Blown off shingles can expose the wood deck underneath and become an open invitation for water intrusion. To stop leaks before they start, FORTIFIED standards require sealing the roof deck to block water from seeping through cracks and joints.
Stronger Fastening
FORTIFIED calls for ring-shank nails installed in a tighter, more resilient pattern. This upgrade doesn’t just sound tougher—it actually is. It nearly doubles the holding power of your roof deck, giving it a serious edge in high-wind conditions.
Impact-Resistant Shingles
If you live in a hail-prone region, there’s an extra step worth taking: the Hail Supplement. This requires using shingles that rate Good or Excellent in the IBHS Hail Impact Test. These impact-resistant shingles outperform traditional Class 4s and can stand up to hail up to 2 inches in diameter—offering your home extra armor in extreme weather conditions.
